Uncompensated crystal oscillators are the most common type of oscillator used and find application in virtually every aspect of the electronics industry. The most simple crystal oscillator consists of an amplifier with feedback through a crystal resonator. More sophisticated devices may utilize buffer amplifiers, frequency overtone crystal resonators, tri-state output, and additional frequency multiplication.
